FRANKFORT, Ky. — Katie Howard believes citizens of Central Kentucky deserve a fresh voice in the state Senate.
The Anderson County resident formally announced her candidacy for the District 7 seat after officially filing the paperwork in the state Capitol on Nov. 12. The expected high-profile race will select the successor to former Gov. Julian Carroll, who is retiring after 16 years of service in the Senate.
Howard, a Republican who has called Kentucky home for over a decade, desires to bring a new look to the citizens of Anderson, Franklin, Gallatin, Owen and Woodford counties by drawing on her top-tier corporate management experience. The general election will be held in November 2020.
“I am taking this bold step in an effort to bring a fresh voice to the citizens of the 7th District,” Howard said. “We have positive momentum in Central Kentucky that has developed over the last few years as the economy has improved. Now this district must have a servant-leader who can help drive a plan for strategic growth in the coming years.”
Howard praised Carroll, who has served the district since 2005. “I am grateful for Gov. Carroll’s many years of public service, but it is time for a fresh face that will pave the path for the future,” she said.
Howard’s campaign has been in the exploratory phase for several weeks and her filing allows it to receive contributions and activate a grass roots team. She is making her first bid for public office.
“In planning a campaign of this magnitude, you have to be laser focused on the needs of the entire district, yet recognize the unique aspects of each county. I will have an open ear to all constituents, listening to their ideas and building a partnership for the future,” she said. “I want the citizens of the 7th District to know that I am available and open to dialogue about enabling their families and communities to thrive. We will do this together and have exciting years ahead.”
Howard and her husband, Bill, operate a horse farm near Lawrenceburg. They have five grown children and six grandchildren.
